Replacement Filters

The filters that keep a purifier actually purifying. We cover genuine and compatible replacement filters, what a year of filters really costs per model, and when a third-party filter is a smart saving versus a false economy.

What to know before you buy

Genuine versus compatible filters

Third-party 'compatible' filters can cost half as much as the brand's own, and for many popular models the good ones perform well. The risks are inconsistent HEPA quality and poor fit that lets air bypass the filter. We flag where a compatible filter is a sensible saving and where it's worth paying for the genuine part.

Buy in multipacks and set a reminder

Filters are a repeat purchase, so multipacks usually lower the per-filter cost, and a calendar reminder beats waiting until the air smells stale. Running a purifier with a clogged filter makes it work harder for less clean air — the filter schedule is part of owning one.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wash and reuse a HEPA filter?

Generally no. Unless the manufacturer specifically labels a filter as washable, rinsing a True HEPA filter damages the fibers and ruins its efficiency. Washable pre-filters (the coarse outer layer that catches hair and large dust) are different — those you can and should rinse. The main HEPA filter is a replace-not-wash part.
