Levoit Core 300S Filter Light Reset: Hold Sleep, Not a Reset Key

The Levoit Core 300S has no button labeled for the filter. To clear its red Check Filter Indicator, switch the purifier on and press and hold the Sleep Mode button for 3 seconds. A quick tap only puts it into Sleep Mode, which is why so many first attempts look like they did nothing except make the fan quieter.

Do this first

This sequence comes from Levoit's original Core 300S manual and its 2024 manual for the Core 300S and Core 300S-P series. Both give the same steps.

  1. Unplug the purifier and flip it over. The filter is loaded from the base.
  2. Twist the filter cover counterclockwise and lift it away, then pull out the old cylinder.
  3. Vacuum loose dust and hair out of the cavity. Levoit says not to use water or other liquids inside the purifier.
  4. Unwrap the new filter completely and drop it in with the pull handle facing up. Running it with the plastic still on can make the purifier overheat.
  5. Refit the cover and twist it clockwise until it snaps shut. Stand the purifier upright, display facing up, and plug it in.
  6. Switch it on with the On/Off button, then press and hold Sleep Mode for a full 3 seconds.
  7. Watch the indicator. If it was lit red, it goes out. If you changed the filter before the reminder appeared, the indicator flashes for 3 seconds and then switches off.

Open VeSync afterward and check that the filter life percentage has gone back up.

Why the light is still on

Work down this list before deciding anything is broken.

  • The press registered as a tap. A short press switches Sleep Mode on, the fan drops below speed I and the display blanks itself after 3 seconds. Tap the Fan Speed button to leave Sleep Mode, then hold Sleep again and keep your finger down until the indicator responds.
  • Display Lock is on. While the panel is locked, buttons ignore taps and the lock symbol flashes 3 times when you touch another key. Hold the Display Lock button for 3 seconds to release it, then repeat the reset.
  • The purifier was in standby. Levoit's steps start with the unit switched on. Plugged in but off doesn't count.
  • You're looking at the rings, not the filter icon. The Air Quality Indicator Rings also show red, which means the laser dust sensor is reading bad air. That has nothing to do with the filter timer. Levoit suggests vacuuming the sensor openings for at least 10 seconds every 3 months and keeping ultrasonic humidifiers away, since their mist reads as particles. Our air quality sensor guide covers rings that stay red for days.
  • The filter isn't a genuine Levoit cylinder. Levoit's US listing for its Core 300-P and 300S-P filter 2-pack states that the filter life indicator only works with authentic filters. The manual doesn't explain the mechanism, so treat this as a reason to test the reset with a Levoit filter before blaming the button. Our genuine vs compatible filters guide lays out the trade-off.

Is it time for a new filter?

The light is a usage-based reminder, and Levoit expects it within 6–8 months depending on how much the purifier runs. Its troubleshooting table spells out both edge cases: run it around the clock and the light shows up before 6 months; use it now and then and it may not appear for more than 8.

Check the cylinder itself. Levoit lists four signs that it's done: the purifier sounds louder, airflow drops, odd smells appear, or the pleats look clogged. Brushing or vacuuming the outer pre-filter every 2–4 weeks stretches the time between replacements, but the cylinder can't be washed.

On a small bedroom unit that interval adds up quickly. Levoit sells the Core 300-RF Original Filter in a 2-pack for $54.99 at list, roughly $27.50 a filter:

Replace everyFilters a yearCost a year (2-pack price)
8 months1.5~$41
6 months2~$55

Plug your own interval into the filter cost calculator if the purifier runs only at night.

When to contact Levoit

Call support if the indicator won't clear after a confirmed 3-second hold with the lock off and the purifier running, or if it comes back days after a successful reset. An "E1" on the display is a different fault entirely; Levoit's table says the motor has malfunctioned.

Levoit's line is 1-888-726-8520 (Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Pacific), or email support@levoit.com. The purifier carries a 2-year limited warranty for the original buyer, and registration isn't required to claim it, but you'll need proof of the purchase date. Filters count as wear parts and aren't covered.

The filter that fits

The Levoit Core 300 Replacement Filter (Levoit's Core 300-RF) fits the Core 300, Core 300S and their -P versions; the 2024 manual lists the newer original cylinder as Core 300-P-RF. Levoit also makes a Pet Allergy version (Core 300-RF-PA) and a Toxin Absorber version (Core 300-RF-TX) with extra carbon for cooking, pet and smoke odors. None of them fit the larger Core 400S housing, and if a 300S is struggling with a bigger room, the Core 300S vs Core 400S comparison shows where the step up starts to pay off.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the filter reset button on a Levoit Core 300S?

There isn't a separate one. Levoit gave the Sleep Mode button a second job: a 3-second hold clears the Check Filter Indicator, while a short tap still switches Sleep Mode on or off.

Is the reset the same on the Core 300S-P?

Yes. Levoit's 2024 manual covers both the Core 300S series and the Core 300S-P series and gives the same 3-second Sleep Mode hold, with the purifier switched on.

Why did the purifier go quiet and dark when I tried to reset it?

The press was too short, so the purifier read it as a tap and entered Sleep Mode, which runs the fan below speed I and blanks the display after 3 seconds. Tap the Fan Speed button to leave Sleep Mode, then try again with a full 3-second hold.

Can the VeSync app reset the Core 300S filter timer?

The manual says the app shows a filter life percentage, sends a check-filter notification and links to replacement filters. It doesn't describe an app reset, so clear the reminder on the purifier and then confirm the percentage in VeSync.

Will the 300S filter light work with a non-Levoit filter?

Levoit's listing for its Core 300-P and 300S-P filter 2-pack says the filter life indicator only works with authentic filters, and the manual tells owners to use official Levoit filters. Expect reminder quirks if you fit a third-party cylinder.
