The Levoit Core 600S has a dedicated button for this. With the purifier switched on, press and hold the Check Filter Indicator Reset button for 3 seconds and the filter light goes out. Most failed resets come from a locked display, a purifier in standby, or the wrong button held on a panel that has a lot of them.
Do this first
These steps follow Levoit's Core 600S manual (model LAP-C601S-WUS) and the newer Core 600S-P manual, which describe the same procedure. The 600S opens differently from Levoit's smaller cylinders, so the filter swap is worth reading even if you've owned a Core 300S.
- Unplug the purifier. Leave it standing on a flat surface with the display facing up.
- Twist the top half counterclockwise and lift it straight off. The whole upper section, display included, comes away in one piece.
- Lift the old filter out of the bottom half. Vacuum loose dust from the base while it's empty.
- Strip all the plastic from the new filter and set it into the bottom half.
- Lower the top half back on, lining up the corners, and press down until it snaps into place. It doesn't matter which way the top faces as long as the corners match.
- Plug in and switch it on, then hold the Check Filter Indicator Reset button for 3 seconds.
- Confirm the result. A lit indicator turns off. If you swapped the filter before the reminder came on, the indicator flashes for 3 seconds and then switches off.
Then check that the filter life figure in VeSync has refreshed.
Why it won't clear
- Display Lock is engaged. A locked panel ignores taps, and the Display Lock Indicator in the center of the display blinks when you press anything. Hold Display Lock for 3 seconds to unlock it; the indicator goes out.
- The purifier was off. Levoit's sequence has it running before the reset hold. In standby the panel can still lock and unlock, which makes it easy to assume it's awake.
- The display button was held instead. On the Core 600S-P, holding the display button for 3 seconds toggles Light Detection, and the air quality rings blink once to confirm. If you saw that blink and the filter light stayed on, you held the wrong key.
- The display is off, but the filter light isn't. Display Off and Sleep Mode both darken the panel, yet Levoit keeps the Check Filter Indicator lit in either case. Wake the display, then hold the reset button.
- Sleep was pressed. The 600S doesn't use Sleep Mode for the reset. The procedure differs from the Core 300S, which does.
The Core 400S family shares the dedicated-button design but holds a different filter. If you also own one, the Core 400S filter reset guide covers its swap.
Is the filter really used up?
Levoit says that with 24-hour daily use, the indicator should come on after about 6–12 months, and it gives the same 6–12 month window for replacement. A purifier running only in the evenings will take longer to trigger it. The VeSync app runs its own estimate based on air quality and use, so the app and the light can disagree.
Look at the filter before ordering. Levoit's signs that it's spent are more noise, weaker airflow, odd smells and visible clogging. Vacuuming the pre-filter every 2–4 weeks keeps the pleats beneath it working longer. One 600S-only perk: with the top half set aside, the bottom half of the housing can be cleaned with water, though Levoit says the top half must stay dry.
Levoit lists the Core 600S-P Original Replacement Filter at $59.99 on its US store, so the replacement window swings the yearly bill noticeably:
| Replace every | Cost a year at $59.99 |
|---|---|
| 12 months | ~$60 |
| 9 months | ~$80 |
| 6 months | ~$120 |
The filter cost calculator handles other intervals and adds electricity.
When it needs Levoit
If the light won't clear after a 3-second hold with the purifier on and the display unlocked, or returns soon after a clean reset, contact Levoit at 1-888-726-8520 (weekdays, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Pacific) or support@levoit.com. An "E1" code is a separate fault that Levoit's troubleshooting table blames on the motor. The 2-year limited warranty covers the original buyer with proof of purchase date; filters aren't included.
Which filter to buy
The Levoit Core 600S Replacement Filter is the one to order, sold on Levoit's US store as the Core 600S-P Original Replacement Filter. Levoit also lists a Toxin Absorber version at $69.99 and a Smoke Remover version at $79.99 for heavier odor loads. These cylinders are sized for the 600S only, and smaller Levoit filters won't fit. If the Levoit Core 600S is still short of a big open-plan room, our best large-room purifiers list names stronger options.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Core 600S-P reset different from the original Core 600S?
No. The 2021 Core 600S manual and the Core 600S-P manual both use a dedicated Check Filter Indicator Reset button held for 3 seconds. Levoit's Core 600S-P product page lists the same model code, LAP-C601S-WUS, as the original manual.
Does the Sleep button reset the filter on a Core 600S?
No. On the 600S the Sleep Mode button only switches Sleep Mode on and off. Levoit's smaller Core 300S is the one that uses a Sleep Mode hold for the filter reset, which is where the mix-up usually starts.
How does the VeSync app work out the Core 600S filter life?
Levoit's manual says the app uses an algorithm based on air quality, amount of use and other factors, and sends a notification when it's time to check the filter. The light on the purifier is a simpler reminder that should come on after about 6–12 months of round-the-clock use.
Can I wash the Core 600S filter?
No. Only the outer pre-filter gets cleaned, with a soft brush or vacuum hose every 2–4 weeks, and Levoit says not to use water on the filter. The bottom half of the housing can be rinsed once the top half is removed and set aside.
Why does my Core 600S display go dark at night?
That's Light Detection, which shuts the display off in a dark room and keeps Auto Mode off its high and turbo speeds. It can be switched off in VeSync, or on the 600S-P by holding the display button for 3 seconds.
